la Maison Marguerite

Maison Marguerite was designed by architect’s bureau Jean Philippe Gautier, renovator of the beautiful hotel les Orangeries in Lussac-les-chateaux. Our maison Marguerite in past times accommodated horses and cattle and when we arrived in 2004 it was in a ruinous state with a tree growing in the middle. Totally renovated to a high spec it is centrally heated and double glazed thus making cosy and comfortable accommodation for all seasons. Comprising two double bedrooms and two bathrooms and boasting a vaulted ceiling with light coloured walls maison Marguerite is elegant, light, airy and spacious accommodation for four people.

“What a gorgeous spot. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at ease – Steve and Madeleine have created something really special here. If you’re looking for a place that wraps you in warmth, charm and countryside magic, look no further than this beautiful gîte. Maison Marguerite is full of character and packed with thoughtful little touches that make you feel instantly welcome. The goodies in the welcome basket were such a treat, and every little detail has been considered with care. The pool area is also lovely and beautifully manicured.

Steve and Madeleine are the kind of hosts you secretly hope for but rarely find – warm, generous, and genuinely lovely people who make you feel like part of the family. Their love for the place is infectious and their care and attention is second to none.

And then there’s Harry, the gentle Golden Retriever who’ll happily keep you company while you sip your morning coffee, and Margot, the elegant cat who floats around like she’s auditioning for a French film. Between the two of them, you’re in excellent company. Not to mention Thibault the goat, and the beautiful hens, ducks, guinea fowl and goose!

We loved our stay and are already planning when we can return! Thank you Steve and Madeleine.

“We are so grateful for our time in La Maison Marguerite, we chose to have an extended holiday and settled in quickly to what became our home from home.

Local towns and villages are a short drive away , including twice weekly French markets in Chauvigny. We had a fabulous meal in l’ascenseur , Saint Savin , 8 minutes drive .. and loved sitting by the River Gartempe in Montmorillon.

« Nous avons vécu une expérience absolument merveilleuse, grâce à la créativité exceptionnelle de Madeleine et Stephen, qui ont rendu ce petit ensemble de gîtes à la fois unique sur le plan artistique et particulièrement confortable. »

This is more than a gite, it became our retreat from the constant pressures of life ! We will be back for our next escape as soon as we can”.
